Typical apartment block in Naryan-mar. The ground is very sandy and there is always a ladder (I assume to clean snow off the roof).

It is interesting that you thought that this is how a typical city block looks in NM. It definitely doesn't look very attractive but the picture was taken not of the front of the building but of the back. But what I can say last time I was there it was 15 year ago.
